Green Building

Building Tech

Green Building

We were pioneers in green building before the term was created. Our solar earth-berm home was constructed in 1984 and brought together many innovations in building design to create an extremely efficient example of active and passive systems.

As a member of the National Association of Home Builders we are currently completing a new home which will be one of the first in California to obtain a NAHB Green Certification in residential construction.

In 2007 the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the International Code Council (ICC) partnered to form to establish a much-needed and nationally-recognizable standard definition of what is meant by “Green Building.”

A consensus committee was formed to develop this standard in compliance with the requirements of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The resulting ANSI approved ICC-700-2008 National Green Building Standard defines green building for single and multifamily homes, residential remodeling projects and site development projects while still allowing for the flexibility required for regionally-appropriate best green practices. For more info on the Green Building Standard, go to http://www.nahbgreen.org/Guidelines/ansistandard.aspx

We are listed on NAHBGreen as a certified green builder, and have recently completed a certification course for the National Green Building Standard.

Smart Home Tech

Remote access to security systems, intelligent thermostats, automated lighting, weather sensing ventilation systems, and home controls on your Smart Phone. These are just some of the innovative new technologies that are becoming more prevalent in residential and commercial buildings. We can help you decide which technologies are best for your application and make sure they are properly integrated.

Net Zero Energy

The goal of the California Energy Commission is that all new residential construction will use zero net energy by the year 2020. Energy efficiency has been a focus for many of our projects and can explain which “green” methods will be cost-effective as well as promote healthy living.

Construction Online

Communication is the cornerstone of a successful project. We use this online tool to convey plans, specifications, photos, and other pertinent information to clients, architects, designers, and subcontractors in one organized central location. This data is constantly monitored and updated with the most current information for the project, minimizing errors due to changes as the job progresses.

Permission to access the information is granted with individual secure login giving each account view, download, or upload and download capability, depending on what is required. This allows us specific and flexible control of all documents connected with the job through completion. All information can be accessed wherever an internet connection is available. The description below shows an example of the interface. Call us for a more thorough explanation of how we can help you with your next project.
